Submissions open for SOC Camera Operator of the Year

The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) has announced submissions for the Camera Operator of the Year in both Film and Television categories are now open. Submissions for the Technical Achievement Award will open November 5, 2025, recognizing innovation and technological excellence in camera operation and production tools.

The annual Society of Camera Operators (SOC) Awards will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, honoring the artistry and innovation of camera operators across the industry. In response to the ongoing challenges facing members and sponsors amid the slowdown in U.S. production, the 2026 ceremony will be a live stream, allowing the global community to celebrate together with in-person Watch Parties hosted in Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta. More details to be announced.

“The SOC Awards have always been about honoring excellence, resilience, and creativity behind the camera,” said Matthew Moriarty, President of the Society of Camera Operators. “Our members and peers are the heroes of visual storytelling, crafting the shots, movements, and moments that make audiences feel part of the story. This year’s live stream ensures we can continue to celebrate that artistry while also acknowledging the realities facing our members, sponsors, and the wider community.”

The Camera Operator of the Year Awards honors camera operators in Feature Film and Television for their distinguished work on notable projects. Submissions are open to the entire Film/TV community, including SOC members, directors, producers, and production crew members, with Camera Operators able to submit themselves as well. Once the submissions close on December 31, 2025, SOC voting members will select the top nominees in both categories, followed by a distinguished jury who will review and confirm the finalists.  Membership voting opens February 5, 2026, with recipients announced live during the awards presentation. A $75 USD nomination fee applies per submission.

For the Technical Achievement Awards, submissions are open until November 5, 2025. This award recognizes groundbreaking technology used by camera operators and camera crews during production. Eligible technologies can include entirely new devices or techniques, innovations that improve existing tools, or significant advancements that enhance current equipment. The focus of this award is on tools that contribute to the creativity, efficiency, and storytelling capabilities of camera operators. Following an initial review, a live demo day will take place on January 11, 2026, where entrants will present their innovations to the jury. The recipient will be honored during the March 7 awards celebration.
