Student made “The Rent” gets high marks

A year after its successful web series “Sexperts,” the Columbia College TV department’s Internet and Mobile TV concentration launched its second web series, “The Rent,” on May 13.

The department has “only been around for two years and we’ve written, directed, produced and distributed two awesome series,” says Michael Fry, who teaches the Writing for Internet and Mobile TV class.

“I know of no other higher education program that is collaboratively making episodic web series of this caliber?all done by students,” Fry says.

Cody Regennitter wrote “The Rent” for Fry’s class.

A total of six episodes of two to three minutes each debut every Thursday at 9 p.m. through June 17 on renttv.com

Brendan Carney, Nick Bender, and Kevin Quatman star as a trio of slackers hatching a series of harebrained money-making schemes to avoid eviction, including sex tapes, blackmailing and “illegal conspiracies.”

With Dan Flannery as their hardnosed landlord, Paige Klone, John Kellerhals and Jacqui Pugh.
