Story signs Andy Richter as spot director

ACTOR, PRODUCER, DIRECTOR ANDY RICHTER joined Story for exclusive representation as a commercial director ? the first time he is available to direct spots. Story will market the former Conan O’Brien “Late Night” sidekick for his comedic talents.

First assignment for Richter was directing Missouri Lottery spots for St. Louis agency, Adamson.

Story executive producer Cliff Grant says Richter is “extremely well prepared to step behind the camera. He undertands the process of working with actors and casting, setting up shots and editing.”

Richter is a five-time Emmy nominee for his work as a “Light Night” writer. He was one of he voices on the animated feature “Madagascar I and II,” and produced and starred in two prime-time comedies

Grand Rapids native Richter attended Columbia College as a film major, showing his comedic chops by acting and starring in numerous student projects.

After leaving Columbia, he worked on Chicago commercial shoots as a P.A. In 1989, Richter studied at Improv Olympic and branched out working with the Comedy Underground and Annoyance Theatre.

He also had a writing stint on the short-lived Jonathan Brandmeier TV show.

A WELCOME ADDITION TO THE INDIE SCENE is One Three Releasing, Chad Cassell’s newly-formed distribution company. “Chicago is an intense indie film town,” he says. “I want to find good, marketable indie features for art house or even for wide commercial release. I have direct access to theatres.”

Cassell is a former distribution coordinator for Picturehouse, whose Wheeling office had been headed by John Lange and Dan Lange, formerly of Newmarket Films.

Cassell’s timing may be right on the money as Picturehouse was recently shuttered as New Line’s art-house/indie/foreign arm. At the same time, Warner Bros. closed Warner Independent Films.

All genres are of interest to Cassell, especially faith-based films, he says.
