State-sponsored PSAs encourage HIV testing

“ARE YOU THE ONE?” is the question the State of Illinois is asking in a cross-platform campaign to alert men to get tested to combat the spread of HIV.

The campaign, consisting of broadcast, print, outdoor and online, is designed to bring people to the state’s website, gettestedillinois.com, to learn where state-run HIV testing sites are located.

All elements of the campaign were created by SPI-tv’s Rogelio Gazga. His partner, James Demos, directed the spots, Gazga is shooting with a Panasonic HDX 900 shot and edited. An original score is being provided by composer Andy Mitran of Mitran Mitran Music.

Teasers in print media will start April 12 and run for 12 weeks. Additionally, posters will be mounted in men’s lavatories in restaurants and night clubs, Gazga says.

TV and radio 30s will begin running the end of April throughout the summer. One spot is aimed at African Americans, another at Latinos and whites. “Banner ads will be posted on other websites where the target audience usually gathers,” notes Gazga.

COMEDY COMMERCIALS for the national Bob Evans restaurant chain will be directed by Story’s Jeff France, for the chain’s new agency, Brunner of Pittsburgh, which replaced the Chicago Creative Partnership.

France will spend two days shooting on Essanay’s stage, followed by two days on location in Orlando. Marcy Wallach is producing.

THE BEAST’S ANGELO VALENCIA, who edits many Kraft products handled by agency mcgarrybowen, is creatively cutting Miracle Whip commercials directed by the New York team of Arni and Kinski (Stefan and Siggi), Iceland natives.

New York-headquartered mcgarrybowen opened a Chicago branch here about a year ago with the Kraft business, which had been a JWT staple for decades. Lisa Burke-Snyder heads its local production department.
