Stars aligned for Coletta joining Protein Editorial

SPOT EDITOR MICHAEL COLETTA has moved over to Protein Editorial as its second Chicago editor, after two-and-a-half years at Red Car.  Coletta and Tim Jacobs, Protein EP and partner (with EP Ted Lega and editor Clark Jackson) had formed a friendship over the years and when Coletta’s Red Car contract recently ended, it was an easy transition for him to make to Protein, a small but fast-rising company.

“The stars were perfectly aligned,” say both Coletta and Jacobs about the new association.  “I liked the way these guys think, I like the space and the fact that we have mutual relationships,” adds Coletta.

Coletta is Protein’s second locally-based editor (with Clark Jackson).  The company exclusively represents six independent L.A. editors in the Midwest, who work here as locals, Jacobs notes.  “Our point of difference is that we’re a small post house that brought six new reels to Chicago for the first time.”

Protein’s Ted Lega, Tim Jacobs, Michael Coletta and Clark Jackson. The addition of Coletta gives Protein “extraordinary strength as a young post house,” Jacobs says. “It’s a very big deal for him to join us.  Our reels are as strong as they’ve ever been,” he says. “We’re excited to be competing with established companies.”

Coletta, who’s edited commercials for major brands at all the big local agencies, feels the new alliance will give him an opportunity to broaden his comedic spot specialty.

Coletta moved to New York in 2005, after 10 years with local post houses, where he edited for 89 Editorial and Bug Editorial.  Red Car brought him back to Chicago in 2010.
