Star Corbin Bernsen, director Dirk Benedict, join writer-producer Rubey’s feature “Baggage”

Catherine E. Rubey’s debut feature as writer-producer, “Baggage,” has snagged Corbin Bernsen (“L.A. Law”) as lead actor and Dirk Benedict as director, for a planned September production here.

“Baggage” will be Benedict’s second feature as director, after ?01’s “Cahoots.” He’s best known for TV roles on “The A-Team” and the original “Battlestar Gallactica.”

“Dirk brings a wealth of experience as a writer, director and actor, as well as real-life experience as a pilot and a survivor of prostate cancer, which is an issue in the film,” Rubey said. “I’d be hard-pressed to find someone more in tune with the vision that we have.”

Bernsen stars in “Baggage” as a retiring airline pilot reuniting with his adult son (producer Stephen Polk) and his ex-wife.

Bernsen rejoins his “Major League” co-star, local Chelcie Ross, a supporting lead in “The Baggage” who has advised Rubey on the script and provided “moral support” during development.
