SPI-tv’s pro bono PSA to help those who help others

SPI-tv’s Alvarez PSA

SPI-tv Media Group partners Rogelio Gazga and James Demas have put on their good guy hats with an offer to produce a pro bono public service announcement for a Chicago-area non-profit organization that could use some TV exposure.

There are no strings attached, assures Gazga, the company’s DP/editor.  “We have admiration for organizations that are making a difference, like Anti-Cruelty Society, Susan G. Komen Foundation, MEMA Music, Breast Cancer Awareness and Autism Speaks that we’ve produced for in the past.”

Proposals from non-profits will be accepted from now through Feb. 28. The organization selected will be notified in early March and the PSA will be created and produced within the following two-three weeks.

The proposal submission should include the organization’s stated objectives, what it wishes to achieve with the spot, and an idea of what it would like to convey in the spot or any concept it has.  A marketing plan should be included.  Contact name and information included, of course.

Advertising agencies that work on a pro bono basis with institutions and organizations are also invited to submit a proposal.

The HD spot will be a voiceover; it may be shot in the studio, green screen or location; editing, graphics and music included.

Demas will direct and Lucia Currans will produce.

Director Jim Demas and DP Rogelio GazgaTape stock and other materials is being donated by Data Media of Glenview and music used comes from the Mitran/Perfect Choice Music Library, music created by local musician/music producer Andy Mitran.

Proposals should be Emailed to Rogelio Gazga,rogelio@spi-tv.com.

Gazga says his company also will be happy to assist the organization in the PSA’s distribution for broadcast and posting on the organization’s web site.

SPI-tv has been producing PSAs for nonprofits for the past eight years, through its HELP Initiative (Hispanic Empowerment Liaison Plan) although the organization does not have to be Hispanic, Gazga says.

“There’s a great deal of satisfaction being able to help a cause, and want to help in the one best way we know how,” he says.

Some recent PSAs were for Cook County state’s attorney Anita Alvarez’ the victims witness assistance program that protects crime victims and Veterans Affairs for Wounded Soldiers’ help line for veterans coping with PTSD.

Gazga’s personal favorite was an Anti-Cruelty Society PSA, “only because we got to spend a day with the animals and the good people who care for them,” he says.
