The Sound of Music sing-a-long returns to the Music Box Theatre

Julie Andrews

The Music Box Theatre marks the return of The Sound of Music sing-a-long.

For more than a decade, Thanksgiving has been celebrated at the Music Box Theatre with the Von Trapp Family Players, the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. and the 1965 classic The Sound of Music. This fun-filled tradition includes a screening of the classic Julie Andrews musical in glorious, full-screen Technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along. The lyrics will appear on screen for anyone who doesn’t know all the words to The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Me, and, of course, My Favorite Things.

The fun actually begins before the film, with a vocal warm-up led by the evening’s host and our house organist Dennis Scott on the famous Music Box Theatre Organ.

Every member of the audience receives a complimentary Magic Moments Pack, containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film.

COSTUME CONTEST

Then the famous Costume Contest begins, during which every kid and adult who has come in costume as their favorite The Sound of Music character is invited onstage to show off their tailoring skills and compete for great Music Box prizes. Creativity is strongly encouraged!

After a winner is chosen by the audience, it’s time to kick-off The Sound of Music sing-a-long.
