Somebody Somewhere premieres its final season

Somebody Somewhere celebrated the premiere of the third and final season of the Chicago-made series with a special screening event of episodes 1 & 2 hosted by the historic Roxy Theater in Lockport, Illinois on October 30th.

The cast and crew have a strong connection to the charming Chicago suburb, where much of the series was filmed. The choice was made to film the series in Lockport and other nearby locations because the area reflected the show’s themes, with authentic Midwestern settings echoing the small-town feel that was central to its storyline.

The critically acclaimed dramedy has been praised for its authentic representation of Midwestern culture and its blend of humor and poignant moments. Drawing on Everett’s own life experiences, the series explores themes of self-acceptance, identity, and the importance of community, while showcasing the complexities of relationships and the journey to find one’s place in the world.

The series follows Sam (Bridget Everett), as she returns to her hometown of Manhattan, Kansas after caring for her sister with terminal cancer. Sam forges through grief and personal challenges while she navigates a thorny relationship with her surviving sister Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison), ultimately forming deep connections with the quirky residents of her small town and her co-worker, Joel, brilliantly played by Jeff Hiller.

Notable guests at the screening event included cast members Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller, along with creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen. The event was held as an intimate, invitation-only gathering for cast and crew, and local residents, celebrating the show’s return, and included a Q&A session with the cast and creators.

Here’s a peak at the upcoming season:

In the final season of Somebody Somewhere viewers can expect an emotional yet uplifting conclusion to Sam’s journey. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace, leading her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible. Anywhere. Somewhere. In season three, we see growth against all odds. This final season will dive deeper into Sam’s evolving relationships, especially with her close friend Joel, whose dynamic with Sam remains central to the storyline. Joel also faces balancing his romantic relationship and his connection with Sam. Additionally, Sam’s relationship with her sister Tricia enters a new, positive phase, allowing both characters to grow.

The creators of Somebody Somewhere are aiming for an ending that feels true to the characters without wrapping everything up too neatly — keeping the opportunity of further development open-ended.
