STEVEN SODERBERGH is making Chicago one of the dozen globe-spanning locations in his upcoming 3D action-thriller, “Contagion.” What looks to be a blockbuster starts filming in mid-October in Chicago. Soderbergh is producing and directing.
The ensemble cast includes Matt Damon (who starred in Soderbergh’s “The Informant,” filmed Downstate), Gwenyth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Laurence Fishburne.
Written by Scott Z. Burns, who scripted “The Informant,” “Contagion” centers on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the Center for Disease Control to deal with the outbreak.
“Contagion’s” other locations will be Hong Kong, Minneapolis, Chicago, China, Dubai, Japan, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, Brazil, Russia and Malaysia.
