Roy Skillicorn, who built a big, Chicago-based bicoastal production company, has been hired by Digital Kitchen to launch and lead its new DK Studios, aimed at fulfilling the myriad content needs of the ever-evolving advertising industry.

Skillicorn has moved into Digital Kitchen’s River North offices as executive producer of DK Studios, which will utilize Digital Kitchen’s 120 staff across its three city offices

“We will tap into all of our in-house company talent and offerings, from live action production to editorial, our 3D motion team and animation, to produce content for advertising and entertainment clients,” Skillicorn says.

With Skillicorn on board, notes Colin Davis, DK Studios’ head of production, “We have one of the most highly respected evangelists ready to demonstrate to agencies both the value and the creative storytelling powers that come with working with DK Studios.”

Digital Kitchen co-founder/president Don McNeill and Skillicorn had been friends for years and says, “Collaborating with Roy made perfect sense to us for the DK Studios launch.”

They share what McNeill characterizes as “historic loyalty to Chicago” and its creative talent. “We also share the passion for wickedly brilliant work, a positive creative culture and producing inspired storytelling, regardless of the medium.”

Skillicorn’s new position is a return to his commercial production studio beginnings.  He founded Backyard Productions in Chicago in the ‘90s, followed in the 2000’s by Tricky Pictures and Transitor Studios.  For the past four years, he has helmed Seed Media Artsa major content creator for agencies and direct clients.

Seed will continue with daughter Jessica Skillicorn, as director of operations, and as executive producer, Fred Smith, a former DDB executive producer and later a partner in a thriving Chicago advertising agency.

His son, Nathan Skillicorn, is also in the film industry as Midwest rep for global talent via his Heart, Brains & Nerve company.

Skillicorn is tackling his new position with his famous enthusiasm.  “I am very pleased to be surrounded by genius and having a strong role in such a dynamic creative fusion of artists to offer their full production alchemy to my agency friends.”

DK Studios is located at 314 W. Superior, phone 312/915-4827. Skillicorn’s phone is 312/925-3679.
