Showtime releases trailer for ‘THE CHI’ season three

In less than two minutes, the new trailer for season three of THE CHI showcases Chicago as one of the most dazzling, diverse, and passionate cities on earth.

Cut to the uplifting beat of hometown superstar Lupe Fiasco’s The Show Goes On, layers of the Windy City unfold as skyline views, church celebrations, and family devotion mix with street scenes, local politics, and raw emotion.

These are a few of the scenes that have helped THE CHI earn nearly a dozen nominations from The Black Reel, Image, and NAMIC Vision Awards.

The trailer also includes a glimpse of series creator, Emmy-winner, and Chicago native Lena Waithe (Queen & Slim, Boomerang) as Camille Hallaway, a character who follows “a multi-episode arc as a Chicago mayoral candidate” in THE CHI season 3, according to a Showtime press release.

“This city wasn’t meant to be a jungle,” says Hallaway. “There’s so much more than that. If you’re with me, let me get a ‘amen.’”

Created and executive produced by Waithe and executive produced by Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Common (Selma), THE CHI is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence, but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

A stellar cast and incomparable lineup of guest stars promise to keep the show on track in 2020. Season three includes Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (Queen of Katwe), Jacob Latimore (Sleight), Alex Hibbert (Moonlight), Yolonda Ross (Treme), Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps and Birgundi Baker.

Guest stars include two-time Grammy-nominee Luke James (Star, Little) as Victor “Trig” Taylor, Jake’s (Michael V. Epps) estranged older brother who wants to reunite his fractured family, but takes an unconventional approach.

Alani “La La” Anthony (Power) will play Dominique “Dom” Morris, a savvy businesswoman with dreams of more lucrative opportunities.

Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Bird Box) will play Zeke Remnick, the owner of Sonny’s (guest star Cedric Young) building who cares less about the community than the bottom line.

Kandi Burruss (The Real Housewives of Atlanta) plays Roselyn Perry, the estranged wife of Douda (guest star Curtiss Cook), back at his side to influence his political agenda and to help herself.

And according to IMDb, native Chicago actor, author, chef, host, and all-around modern-day Renaissance woman LaDonna Tittle will return in her role as Miss Ethel Davis.

Writer Justin Hillian (Snowfall) serves as showrunner and executive producer for the third season.

Airing Sunday nights at 9 p.m. CDT on Showtime, THE CHI will launch its third season on July 5. For more info, click on this.
