‘Shooting Heroin’ is hosting a Virtual Live Red Carpet

Shooting Heroin

Shooting Heroin, one of the first narrative feature films on the current opioid epidemic in North America, is hosting a virtual Live Red Carpet Premiere with cast and crew on April 3 at 2:30pm PDT.

Shooting Heroin, written and directed by Spencer T. Folmar (Generational Sins) tells the story of a small-town Pennsylvania community that comes together to fight back against the spread of drugs “by any means necessary”—a story of a group of vigilante townsfolk who take justice into their own hands to fight for the heart of America, and save the next generation from overdosing and dying.

The film features Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), Alan Powell (Quantico), Garry Pastore (HBO’s The Deuce), Nicholas Turturro (SVU), Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), and Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs(Cooley High), among many others.

Taped Cast/Crew Interviews Released Ahead of Live Event:

Since Folmar’s last film premiered nationally, he has pursued new ventures in distributing independent films, including Warning Shot, starring David SpadeBruce Dern, and James Earl Jones, and creating a partnership with his own Veritas Theatres chain in major cities. Folmar is building his own theatre chain to give transparency and integrity for indie filmmakers to enjoy their films on the big screen across the country—when it’s safe to do so. All of his theatres are currently shuttered.

Shooting Heroin has repeatedly pivoted to reach its audience in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.

Following the cancellation of its Los Angeles premiere and party, the producers have organized a LIVE, digital red carpet premiere for opening day, taking place on Zoom from 2:30-3:30PM Friday April 3 with numerous cast and crew in attendance online for media to meet and interact with.

Originally set for an initial limited theatrical release in cities across North America, Shooting Heroin moved to video on-demand and pay-per-view platforms following the shutdown of almost all movie theatres nationally during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The film had also been set to premiere at three film festivals in Northern New Jersey, Dallas and Los Angeles–two were cancelled.

The third, the Garden State Film Festival, went online, premiered the film Saturday March 28 and hosted an online Q&A following the screening with dozens of guests; the film captured a Best Supporting Actor Award for Garry Pastore.

Folmar concludes, “We’ve rolled with the punches on this film. Before COVID-19 arrived on our shores, opioid overdose was already here–a leading cause of death in the US claiming more than 100 lives PER DAY. While COVID-19 has elbowed it aside, opioid addiction isn’t going away during the pandemic; it’s going to remain epidemic. In fact during this time, coronavirus has taken our eyes off of it–it threatens to get worse. We hope Shooting Heroin will shed light on and give hope to those millions affected by it.

All Cable, Satellite, Telco, and Digital TVOD and EST platforms and services will go live on April 3. In the US, it’s on cable: InDemand and MSOs; Comcast; Charter; Cox; Spectrum; Vubiquity; Verizon Fios; ATT U-Verse; DirecTV; Dish Network-IPVOD/EST; and Sling.

In Canada, it’s on Telus, Rogers, and Shaw, with more carriers to come. Please check providers for Canadian transactional digital including: iTunes; Amazon; GooglePlay; Microsoft X-Box; Vimeo; Sony PSN; Fandango; and Vudu.
