Sears search for star chefs shoots July 31

LIVE COVERAGE of Round One of Sears Chef Challenge Event in search of the next rising culinary stars will be produced July 31 by marketing agency Pure Entertainment of Batavia.

The live telecast of the four semi-finalists will take place inside the Kenmore Studio, 678 N. Wells St., and a happening outside will allow non-contestants to test their own cooking skills.

Heading the live coverage is Pure Imagination producer Andrew Schones, formerly of Pixel Brothers, who joined Pure last November. He will lead a crew of 22.

The Sears Chef Challenge, basically organized like sports brackets, is ending Round One, which consisted of three competing chefs each from Chicago, New York, L.A. and Washington, D.C. The winner of that round — to be determined by online voting — will face off the winner of upcoming Round Two.

Coverage of the July 31 line-cut event will be streamed on ustream.tv and on searschefchallenge.com. “We will create a highlight reel at the end of the event in September and edit it in-house,” Schones says.

Money raised by the Sears Chef Challenge will be contributed to the nation’s food banks.
