SAG-AFTRA prepares for negotiations; WGA strike picks up steam

Momentum builds as the WGA enters week 3 of their strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

Hundreds gathered Wednesday in solidarity as writers were joined by the unions.

From Teamsters, to Laborers’ International Union of North America, to SAG-AFTRA, it was a collective force as the WGA picketed the NBC Tower in downtown Chicago.

The Matrix creator Lilly Wachowski joined picket lines on Monday at 3 a.m. at Cinespace Studios on Chicago’s West Side, to help shut down production of the Showtime drama The Chi.

As reported on Reel Chicago, production has been paused at Emperor of Ocean Park and it is likely that their June 20 start date will be delayed as they monitor the progress of WGA strike negotiations.

Joining in solidarity in the WGA picket lines, SAG-AFTRA is also prepared to strike if necessary as they enter negotiations on June 7 with the AMPTP.

The DGA is currently in negotiations with the AMPTP on their contract which expires on June 30, 2023.
