Ryan Chiaverini is new Lead Sports Anchor at WLS

Ryan Chiaverini has been appointed as the lead sports anchor at WLS, the ABC-owned station in Chicago. This move follows the retirement of Jim Rose, and Chiaverini will now helm sports coverage at 5, 6, and 10 p.m.

Jennifer Graves, the Vice President of News at WLS, expressed confidence in Chiaverini, stating, “Ryan knows Chicago sports inside out and cuts right to the heart of what this city’s sports fans want to know about their favorite teams. His infectious personality and creativity bring a sense of fun to every sportscast he anchors.”

Having joined WLS in 2006, Chiaverini is no stranger to the Chicago sports scene. He previously hosted the talk and entertainment show Windy City Live from 2011 to 2021. Chiaverini’s deep understanding of Chicago sports and his ability to connect with the audience have been highlighted as key factors in his appointment.

“I’m honored to be part of the ABC 7 Sports team and the legacy of top-notch sports coverage in Chicago. I hope to carry on that tradition while bringing new and creative ways to engage our audience,” said Chiaverini.

In addition to his sports anchor role, Chiaverini will continue to host ABC 7’s “Windy City Weekend” and other specials, including the “Magnificent Mile Lights Festival” and the WLS New Year’s Eve special. This multi-faceted role showcases Chiaverini’s versatility and commitment to engaging the Chicago audience across various platforms.
