Sun-Times sports columnist Rick Telander hosts a night of short films headlined by a film from Jason Reitman (“Thank You for Smoking”) at the second annual Asbury Shorts Chicago on April 26.
A staple of the New York ad world, Asbury Shorts is a short film showcase with a series of worldwide offshoots.
The showcase was first launched in Chicago last year by producer Elise Kleinman, founder of the new production company, Big Teeth Productions. She moved to Chicago in 2003 from New York, where she had worked as a commercial producer for major ad agencies.
“A lot of the directors in the showcase work on commercials, and people from the ad world go to Asbury to find new talent,” she said.
Spot house Z Group Films is the official sponsor of this year’s Asbury Shorts.
“Dan Zigulich at Z Group has allowed us more insight into, and contacts in the ad world,” said Kleinman, “Everyone knows him as a producer and the word-of-mouth has been great.”
