Resolution Digital goes green in a BIG way

Since its arrival a few months ago, Resolution Digital Studios’ new, massive green screen has proven to one of the facility’s major assets.

The digital compositing backdrop, made of intense green chroma-key material is sized at 60-wide x 40-high, making it one of the largest green screen shooting spaces between coasts. The green screen is available for setup in Resolution’s cavernous 5,600-sq. ft. main stage.

“It’s not a permanent fixture,” says Diane Mercurio, Resolution’s marketing director. “So in essence, our entire stage can be converted into a giant green screen studio in a few hours.”

The installation is a total turn-key operation, Mercurio notes. “By the time the clients arrive for their shoot, we have have already rigged the green screen . It’s in place, lit, and ready to go.

“We provide 130-feet of truss along with six 30-foot chain motors to raise the truss; six 3,000 watt custom fabricated space lights; a 24-channel dimmer, with board control, and a facility manager.

The complete rental package rate is $5,000 per 10-hour day including prep and strike.

The screen, along with the other options offered, allows the studio to expand and contract the green area of our stage, depending on the breadth of the client’s needs, says Mercurio

While the generous amount of the material creates a cyc along the back wall and sweeps well out onto the floor, Resolution also install green vinyl flooring for an even broader canvas of shooting space.

A 20-foot return can be on the side, for an additional 400-sq. ft. of green screen expanse.

One recent high-profile shoot was composite placement on the home page of the Chicago 2016 Committee’s website home page, via its agency, Ogilvy & Mather. Athletes were brought in to perform their particular sports’ maneuvers, edge-to-edge, in front of the green screen.

Resolution executive producer, Mitch Apley, co-directed the vignettes with Foundation, which ultimately finished the pieces last May. They can be seen running at the bottom of the page at www.chicago2016.org.
