Reserve now for The Hummel Aug. 22 golf outing

Nine holes or 18, or post-event dinner only, the fun’s still there at The Hummel Golf Outing Monday, Aug. 22 that brings together 130-140 golfers and non-golfers for the day.

The Wilmette Golf Club and new Club House is the setting for what has become a major summer social event for the 12th consecutive year.

The $10,000 usually raised at the outing will benefit media community individuals and families in need of financial support due to hardship, loss or death, said co-chairman Pete DeBenny of Midwest Media.

The Golf Outing was named in remembrance of Skyview’s chief engineer Jerry Hummel, who died suddenly in 1993.

“Since Jerry was well liked throughout the industry and had a young family, we started a college fund for his son” through the annual golf outing, DeBenny said. When Mr. Hummel’s son no longer needed financial support, The Hummel’s proceeds went into a general Chicago Post Production Benefit Fund.

Co-chairmen of the 2005 event The Tape Company’s Bob Daly, Optimus’ Tom Duff, Filmworkers Club’s Pete Jannotta and DeBenny. Harpo’s Radi Akel and the Tape Company’s Jessica Armstrong are on the committee.

Registration takes place at noon; shotgun starts at 1 p.m., 5:30 cocktails and 6:30 dinner and raffle. Fees are $175 per golfer, and $75 for dinner only. RSVP by Aug. 9 by calling Jessica Armstrong, 630/993-7916.
