POST PEOPLE PRODUCE INDIE. Former Lakeshore Production colleagues, I-Cubed producer Samantha Steveson and freelance editor Gregory Poulimas, started shooting their indie feature in 2001 and, with the help of I-Cubed, are wrapping post on their first feature.
Poulimas wrote and directed and Stevenson produced “Before We Were Turtles.” Story is about a couple deals with their past together and how they’re going to get on with their lives. Christen McAllister and James Zois are the leads. “We shot every weekend for two months,” said Stevenson. Cameraman Kurt Lawson of Bright Pictures shot in 16mm; Poulimas is, of course, editing with “I-Cubed making it incredibly easy for us to finish,” said Stevenson.
“QUEER EYE” STAR FOR FIELD’S. Outrageous dress expert Carson Kressley, the key member of the “Fab Five” on “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” stars in a new Field’s holiday spot for an upcoming 13-hour sale. Expected to air after Thanksgiving are spots feature female musical group Bond and Irish Riverdancers. FYI: The “Fab Five’s” food and wine expert is Chicago’s Ted Hall, a long-time columnist for Chicago magazine. His equally long-time partner is Barry Rice, a program director with Columbia College’s journalism department.
NEW ANIMATION TOOLS. A Trix spot gets the first use of Calabash Animation’s new software upgrade to U.S. Animation, written exclusively for its new Unix equipment. “It’s a big step forward,” said co-owner Monica Kendall about the $10,000 software investment. “It enables us do exciting things, such as take 3D animation and make it look like a hand-drawn cartoon.”
INTERNATIONAL DOC UNDERWAY. Ted Kay Productions is embarking on its biggest project ever ? a three-part, big-budget, international doc on how Alzheimer’s disease affects people around the world. National PBS will air “Facing Alzheimer, an African American Perspective” over the next two years. “We’ll be filming on four continents,” Africa, South America, Europe and Asia, said Kay, who will be directing testimonials of doctors around the world until next July. International crews were booked through Bill Scheer’s Assignment Desk.
INDIE “DESIGN” PREMIERES. Indie filmmakers John Digles and Davidson Cole of Traveller Jones Productions host the premiere of their feature, “Design,” at the Gene Siskel Film Center December 5, 2003 at 8 p.m., with a repeat Dec. 8, also at 8 p.m. All are welcome.
