The Red camera revealed; Timothy Hutton heads the cast of “Leverage;” nifty auction items for IFP

THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED RED CAMERA debuts in Chicago Wednesday at an SRO demo at RDS given by RDS’ Mitch Apley and Optimus’ Craig Leffel answering the question: Does the 4K Red live up to its advanance buzz?

Designed by Jim Jannard, owner of Oakley sunglasses of Orange County, the Red sells for $17,000. Fletcher Chicago bought nine of them for rentals.

TIMOTHY HUTTON stars in “Leverage,” the TV pilot written and directed by Dean Devlin of TNT Entertainment that goes into production here Oct. 6-15.

The story centers on big insurance company investigator Nate Ford (Hutton), an investigator for big insurance companies whose life spirals out of control after his son dies.

When the companies he works for refuse to pay for his son’s medical treatments, Ford teams up with high-tech thieves who circle the globe to rob from the rich and corrupt.

AT IFP’S FRIDAY GALA guests will bid on some juicy items acquired for its silent auction, such as a walk-on role in Harold Ramis’ new movie with Jack Black, plane tickets to New York and “The Daily Show,” ditto L.A. and the L.A. Film Festival, an original “Portrait of Henry: Serial Killer,” signed by its director John McNaughton , a “Pan’s Labyrinth” poster, Cubs and Blackhawk tickets “and a million movie tickets,” according to IFP director Elizabeth Donius.

Guest of honor director Robert Townsend will be flying in Washington, D.C. from his doc-in-the-works. Salvage One is the venue. Tickets are $100.

HOW TO DISTRIBUTE YOUR FILM will be tackled by Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment (“Supersize Me,” “Spellbound”) at the CineTech Expo Saturday, Sept. 29, 1:30-3 p.m. at Columbia College. He’ll speak of his experiences moving entertainment product into the film and video marketplace, joined by Bob LaBate of Holland & Knight law firm. (See updated CineTech story in News.)
