Recommended by former boss, Dave Pavlik moves to Canon USA as regional sales director

IT’S A RARE THING when an employer recommends one of his star staffers to another company. But that’s what Fletcher Chicago’s Tom Fletcher did when Canon USA marketing exec Larry Thorpe asked him for suggestions.

Fletcher said Dave Pavlik was his man. Thorpe agreed and Pavlik was hired as Canon USA’s regional sales director.

Pavlik had been with the company for 12 years as sales and rental coordinator and most recently a coordinator in Fletcher’s sports division.

Two Fletcher alums who also moved up with the company’s blessing were former sales manager Kevin O’Connor now Sony’s regional account manager here, and former rental coordinator Sharon Walker, now with Panavision L.A.’s rental department.

NATIVE SON JEFF GARLIN’S COMEDY, “I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With,” gets a Chicago run Oct. 5 at the Music Box. Garlin plays a 39-year old comic still living with his mother, who moons around Chicago in a lovelorn fashion and suffers through a series of low-level professional and romantic humiliations.

It also stars Sarah Silverman who wins his heart by offering him not cheese, but ice cream.

Mostly the movie provides a whole bunch of Garlin’s Second City chums to do some good turns: Bonnie Hunt, Dan Castellaneta, Tim Kazurinki, David Pasquesi and Amy Sedaris.
