Radio Flyer builds studio around iconic wagon

First, there was Barbie. Maybe now there will be Radio Flyer. Inspired by the hit Mattel/WarnerBros Discovery film, the Chicago-based toy manufacturer Radio Flyer is embarking on a new frontier in entertainment with the inauguration of Radio Flyer Studios.

According to Crain’s, this will be a digital division dedicated to bringing the iconic Little Red Wagon to life through animated storytelling. The company’s foray into digital entertainment marks a strategic move to expand its brand presence and engage with audiences in innovative ways.

Headed by seasoned media executives Carrie Miller, formerly of Frederator Networks, and Deborah Frank, known for her work at PBS Kids, Radio Flyer Studios aims to cultivate captivating characters and narratives that stay true to the essence of the brand. With a focus on family-friendly content revolving around themes of adventure, active play, and outdoor exploration, the studio is poised to captivate audiences of all ages.

The vision for the studio crystallized following the success of the company’s 2016 digital animation project, Taking Flight, which paid homage to the company’s founder, Antonio Pasin. Garnering over 6.5 million views on YouTube and clinching a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program, the short film demonstrated the enduring appeal of the Little Red Wagon and its ability to resonate with viewers worldwide.
