Purple Rose Films gave Meiners’ $750,000 “Dee Dee” comedy production and financial boost

Mike Meiners’ debut feature “The Trouble with Dee Dee,” a comedy inspired by the life of his mother, has its world premiere in the Chicago International Film Festival.

Lisa Ann Walter (“War of the Worlds”) stars as Dee Dee, a socialite whose eccentricity leaves her estranged from her millionaire father (Kurtwood Smith, “That 70’s Show”) and teenage son (Mason Gamble, “Dennis the Menace”), relying on the loyalty of her put-upon personal assistant (J.P. Manoux, “Meet the Fockers”).

“Dee Dee goes through a journey that every woman goes through, where they have to connect with their parents on a level other than authority/subordinance. This movie is about the battle over Dee Dee’s behavior at age 42, a battle that ruins both Dee Dee and her father. From the ashes comes a new relationship at a level beyond authority.”

“Lisa disappeared into the role of Dee Dee,” Meiners said. “I think it’s an award-caliber performance.”
