After dealing with three separate landlords over the past five years, The Chicago Portfolio School has made plans to move to the WeWork space in River North when the current academic term ends.
Located in the former home of Google’s Chicago office at 20 W. Kinzie, the new space represents a solid campus upgrade, according to CPS founder and director Jeffrey Epstein.
“We thought we could do better,” he explains. “The new space is located in a vibrant community and has more than 45 meeting rooms, fantastic public hang-out spaces, and best of all… dog friendly!”
The decision was prompted by an incident that was reported in certain advertising trades, but most of them only covered half the story.
Although CPS was recently ordered to vacate its current premises at 213 West Institute Place, the school and the landlord have since reached a solution that will not disrupt its commitment to preparing students for careers in advertising.
“We are going to finish out the summer quarter at our current space,” Epstein told Reel Chicago. “Plans are in the works to relocate to WeWork in River North.”
Over the five years leading up to the decision, the building that has housed CPS for more than a decade was “flipped three times,” he continues, and its ownership changed from “local to a big conglomerate” along the way.

Perhaps most importantly, he told Reel Chicago that the school is in good financial shape and that all of its instructors have been paid in full.
Before founding CPS, Epstein was a Creative Director, Copywriter and UX Designer at a variety of big and small agencies in New York, Chicago and Detroit including Leo Burnett, Scali McCabe Sloves, Grey, TBWA, and Doner.
As Director and Founder of The Chicago Portfolio School, Epstein has devoted his time to helping aspiring art directors, copywriters, and designers build strong campaigns with conceptual work across all channels.
The school represents an excellent and considerably affordable option for students wishing to build their advertising portfolios.
