Grammy-winning superstars and activists, Pink and John Legend, have been tapped to deliver high-profile performances at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) tonight and tomorrow.
According to CNN, who broke the story, Philly native Pink will perform on Thursday evening, setting the stage for Vice President Kamala Harris, who will deliver the most significant speech of her political career that night. This marks Pink’s first major politically-set performance, although she has long been outspoken on social and political issues.
Throughout her career, Pink has advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and supported organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign.
In 2022, Pink released the music video for her song Irrelevant, which addresses racism and sexism in America. The video features powerful imagery related to civil rights, reproductive health care, and racial tensions.
Pink has also been vocal on social media, particularly in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Following the ruling, Pink made it clear that she stands against government intrusion into personal freedoms, writing, “If you believe the government belongs in a woman’s uterus, a gay person’s business or marriage, or that racism is okay, then please in the name of your Lord never f**king listen to my music again.”
Pink’s advocacy extends beyond music; in 2023, she partnered with PEN America to distribute banned books at her concerts in Florida, speaking out against the censorship and attacks on free speech and LGBTQ+ rights in the state.

John Legend Will Make It Purple Rain
Meanwhile, John Legend, another longtime advocate for the Democratic Party, will take the stage on Wednesday night ahead of remarks by Governor Tim Walz. Legend, who has been an avid supporter of President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris, is already in Chicago for the DNC. He recently headlined a show for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and is no stranger to the convention stage, having performed at the 2008 convention for Barack Obama and the 2020 DNC for Biden.
Since Walz is from Minnesota, Legend reportedly will pay tribute to the state by performing the late Prince Rogers Nelson’s music.
Legend has also emphasized the significance of Kamala Harris’ candidacy for his family, particularly for his daughter, Luna, who is Black and Asian and sees herself reflected in Harris.
Representatives for Pink and Legend have not yet commented on their performances, and the DNC has not issued an official statement. However, these high-profile performances are expected to add significant star power to the convention, underscoring the cultural and political influence the artists wield as the Democratic Party rallies support in the final stretch before Election Day.
