Optimus drums up a tasty Johnsonville sausage spot

Rosemont-based Cavalier Drum & Bugle Corps

The Rosemont-based world champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps play an original song they wrote in the lively 30-second spot that One at Optimus’ team of Mark Pallman and Amanda Speva directed for Wisconsin-based Johnsonville sausages, airing on ESPN and the SEC Network and continuing throughout the college football season.

The spot, “Get Fired Up,” is part of a larger on-going campaign focused on building the Johnsonville brand across the Southeastern U.S.

Creative director Kurt Sievert of Johnsonville’s agency, GMR Marketing, wrote the spot to introduce football fans of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to the 70-year old family-owned Johnsonville, of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., known for its smoked and cooked sausages that are ideal for tailgating.

“We cut between the band on the field and footage we shot at the Johnsonville factory,” says co-director Speva, “with real-life Johnsonville employees, including brothers Brett and Nick, who were so charismatic and fun to work with because of the passion they have in making a high quality smoked sausage.”

Filmed in August at Johnsonville’s headquarters, it was edited by Nate Cali of Optimus’ Santa Monica office, with Optimus Chicago’s Marina Bacci handling sound mixing and design. Post producer was Gretchen Prager, who recently left the company. Lisa Masseur is One at Optimus’ executive producer.
