New Walgreen’s Photo Services videos on digital media

John Scaletta’s and Craig Bass’ La Grange-based video production company Motion Source recently produced a series of 26 promotional product and “How To” videos for Walgreen’s Photo services.

A first-time Motion Source client, Walgreen’s released the videos on its Facebook, YouTube and Instagram platforms and they also will stream on a soon-to-be-launched Walgreen’s Photo website.

Each video, 30 seconds to two minutes in length, highlights either a Walgreen’s photo product, such as “Lay Flat Photo Books” or a consumer’s DIY home photo project like “How-To Photo Fun: Gallery Wall” and “DIY Holiday Card Displays.”

They were produced for Walgreen’s Chicago Interactive E-Commerce department at 36. S. Wabash, with a team led by creative director Ryan Duritsa, designer Alec Maduza and senior copywriter Ellen Life.

It turns out that both Walgreen’s and Motion Source had the same vision about the videos’ style. “Our team landed on director Wes Anderson’s iconic cinematography style and coincidentally Motion Source presented that idea to us in their pitch deck,” says designer Maduza.

Adds Bass, “Walgreen’s wanted the style of the videos to stay consistent with a colorful and cheerful brand image and immediately thought of the opening shots in ‘The Royal Tenenbaums.’”

Led by director Bass, the crew of 10 and cast of 25 in June 2015 taped eight days at Motion Source’s Brookfield studio and three days on location at residential homes in Elmhurst and St. Charles.

Bass was also DP with Andy Hoffman; editing by Motion Source’s Jeff Bruninga and Hunter Kallenbach, Michelle Maslanka and Chris Pagoria producing. Stylist Rebekah Wiest provided wardrobe and props.

Eleven actors were sourced from Joanna and Don Underwood’s 13-year-old Babes ‘N Beaus talent agency in Hinsdale.
