New Midcoast Development seeks L.A. production deals for Midwest screenplays with strong stories

Paul Kampf, artistic/executive director of Breadline Theatre Group, is launching the film development and acquisition company Midcoast Development, which plans to acquire 20 screenplays over the next two years.

His two partners are David Lewis, former owner of the defunct Actors’ Center of Chicago, and independent casting director Deborah Aquila (“Mission: Impossible II”) of Los Angeles.

They will broker production deals for as many of the writers as they can. Their object is to discover and funnel fresh new materials from the Midwest to Hollywood studios.

“I think it’s a great business idea, and it’s a great model for getting scripts made from the Midwest,” Kampf said. “Strong stories with strong characters: that’s what we’re looking for.”
