“For kids trying to get something out there and get noticed,” producer Brad Kozie has launched Fine Line Sports Media as a sister company to his Fine Line Productions, a Lake Zurich-based corporate video company.
The new company’s purpose is to create resume videos for high school athletes applying to college, and to document high school sporting events.
“Dads will send coaches DVDs and it’s the whole game. The coaches don’t want to see that. We boil it down to a few minutes and focus on that kid.”
A former high school football coach, Kozie has experienced it from the other side, shooting his son’s games as a wide receiver for Barrington High School. “One time I missed him making an interception,” Kozie says. “You want to watch the game, not see it through an eye piece.”
Marketer Jeff Kummer approached Kozie last year about partnering on the concept. Kummer and Ted Rawlings handle sales to parents, coaches and schools, while Kozie oversees production.
They launched the company at the beginning of this year, shooting demos of baseball, football, softball and hockey games as well as player interviews. They’re working with a softball coach and former pro baseball scout to introduce the concept to potential clients, and offering package deals to teams to produce affordable memorabilia videos.
“If I could buy a bunch of games of my kid playing football, I would have bought them,” Kozie says. “It’s a neat memory thing. As parents we let that slip away from us.”
