NBC News announces changes in correspondents

Maggie Vespa and Meagan Fitzgerald

NBC News announced some recent changes in correspondents. Maggie Vespa will join NBC News and MSNBC as a correspondent based in Chicago. NBC News correspondent Meagan Fitzgerald, who joined the network in 2020, will be moving from Chicago to become a correspondent based in London.

David Verdi, Executive VP Of Global Newsgathering, announced the news in a note, which also mentions that George Solis will join NBC News and MSNBC as a correspondent based in Philadelphia.

We are pleased to share exciting staffing news for our reporting teams across the country and overseas.

Starting Monday, George Solis will join us as a correspondent based in Philadelphia and Maggie Vespa will join us as a correspondent based in Chicago. Both George and Maggie will report across all NBC News and MSNBC platforms.

George comes to us from WPVI-TV, where he has worked as a reporter for the station since 2019. Prior to moving to Philadelphia, George spent three years with Baltimore’s WJZ-TV, covering numerous national headlines, including historic flooding in Ellicott City and the fatal shooting of a Baltimore City police detective. He started his career in Gainesville, Florida, eventually working in his hometown of Fort Myers. There, he was named the Florida AP Broadcasters’ Best Mobile Journalist and was nominated for an Emmy award for his series of reports in Cuba. He is also a graduate of the University of Florida.

Maggie joins us from KGW-TV in Portland as the lead reporter and anchor of “The Story,” where her award-winning reporting included coverage of the Portland housing crisis and an in-depth look inside the state’s Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Before joining KGW-TV in 2014, Maggie spent two years as a general assignment reporter with KGUN-TV in Tucson, Arizona. While at KGUN-TV, her team was first on the scene in the small border town of Nogales, Arizona, reporting on the thousands of undocumented migrant children who had been detained by U.S. Customs & Border Patrol.  Maggie began her career in her hometown of Peoria, Illinois as a reporter and weekend anchor for WEEK-TV and WHOI-TV. She is also a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Please also join me in congratulating Meagan Fitzgerald, who will be moving from Chicago to become our new correspondent based in London. Since joining us in 2020, Meagan has covered a variety of stories, including the trial of Derek Chauvin, the pandemic and the Oxford, Michigan school shooting last year.

We look forward to the excellent reporting George, Maggie and Meagan will bring to their new regions.

Regards,
David
