A workshop on motion picture makeup?the first ever to be given in Chicago?will be conducted by production makeup expert Abiiba Howell of Dominion Films Nov. 12-14.
“The focus of the workshop is to take people with an understanding of beauty makeup and help them transition into doing makeup for films,” said Howell.
The two-and-a-half day intensive theory and practical training course will cover products and protocols, said Howell, who has worked on more than 25 features, 80 music videos and hundreds of commercials over her 18-year career in the film business in Chicago and Houston.
Attendees will learn about understanding color and lighting relationships, makeup techniques, production paperwork and product usage and formulation (“department store beauty products don’t have the formulation to hold up as well under movie lighting,” she said).
Graduates will receive a certificate of completion and have an opportunity to intern on makeup on at least one movie. Handout materials and lunch are included in the $300 fee.
Classes will be held at 320 W. Illinois St., starting at 9 a.m.
