Motion Agency acquires Cincinnati’s Vehr Communications

Motion Agency

The Motion Agency is expanding its Midwest footprint by acquiring Vehr Communications, a Cincinnati-based strategic communications firm.

The deal strengthens Chicago-headquartered Motion’s presence in Cincinnati while expanding its integrated marketing and communications capabilities across the region.

The acquisition is expected to close October 1. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Adding the Vehr Communications team further bolsters Motion’s presence in one of the Midwest’s most respected marketing and branding hubs,” said Kimberly Eberl, CEO and founder of The Motion Agency.

Eberl, a Cincinnati native, said the deal reflects the agency’s broader belief in the Midwest as a center for brand building and creative growth.

“With this latest acquisition, Motion is investing in Cincinnati’s future and not just participating in it,” she said. “We are doubling down on a core belief that the future of brand building is being shaped in cities like Chicago, Cincinnati and other Midwest communities.”

Motion first established a Cincinnati presence in 2023 by acquiring Rick Miller Communications.

The latest move deepens that commitment and comes as the agency searches for its first Creative Director based in the Cincinnati office.

Vehr Communications founder and CEO Nick Vehr said the combined company sees its Midwest roots as an advantage.

“Kim and I believe being in America’s heartland is a competitive advantage,” Vehr said. “The Midwest has always been built on hard work, strong relationships and an entrepreneurial spirit. Those same values shape how we serve our clients every day.”

Vehr said Cincinnati’s concentration of consumer products, financial services and manufacturing companies has long given the city an outsized role in marketing and public relations.

The acquisition, he added, will give Vehr clients access to Motion’s larger talent pool, technology and broader creative and digital capabilities while maintaining existing client relationships.

“Our clients will continue working with the same trusted advisors they know, while benefiting from Motion’s substantial additional talent, technology and capabilities,” he said.

Following the acquisition, Motion will employ nearly 90 professionals across Chicago, Cincinnati and Nashville.

Vehr will remain with the company as executive vice president, focused on business development and growth.

The two agencies have already begun collaborating on integrated assignments that require expanded creative, digital, and communications capabilities.

Motion describes itself as Chicago’s largest certified woman-owned marketing communications agency, and the Vehr acquisition continues its push to build one of the Midwest’s larger independent integrated agency networks.
