The 2024 Mosaic World Film Festival (MWFF) has scheduled its lineup of 70+ films for its 17th annual event to be held at the Rockford Public Library (RPL) Nordlof Center in Rockford, Illinois from September 13th – 15th.
This year’s selections were curated from hundreds of submissions and 75 countries around the world.
Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased on the MWFF website along with a full list of the films for each session.
In addition to the film screenings, attendees can enjoy local food and drinks, music, and mingling with area filmmakers on Friday and Saturday evenings at our filmmaker receptions.
Here is what guests need to know about the fest:
- The 17th annual Mosaic World Film Festival will take place September 13th-15th at the Nordlof Center in Rockford, IL. Screenings will take place from 11am-9pm Friday and Saturday, and 11-6pm on Sunday.
- All of the festival’s short films will be presented in showcase screenings on September 13th and September 14th. Those programs will be made up of narrative, animated, experimental, music video, and documentary films. A full list of the films for each session is available on the MWFF website.
- The evening of Friday, September 13th will see an Opening Night reception at 6:30pm, which includes music, bar service, hors d’oevures, and a red carpet photo opportunity for all who attend. At 7:30pm that evening a special program of films by students with the Rock Valley College Mass Communication program will screen, following an announcement of the award-winners for the entire 2024 MWFF by the Mosaic World Film Festival staff. A Q and A with the selected filmmakers will follow the screening.
- On the evening of Saturday, September 14th the fest will present the popular ‘Regional Filmmakers’ event. At 6pm that evening a reception will be held in the lobby of The RPL Nordlof Center, where filmgoers can meet with the filmmakers from Northern IL and Southern WI. Then at 7pm all of the short films made by those filmmakers will be screened. Each filmmaker will have a chance to answer questions from the audience about their work during the screening.
- A slate of the feature films will be screened on Sunday, September 15th.. The day will begin with the documentary Iraq’s Invisible Beauty at 11am about Latif Al Ani, who photographed Iraq for 30 years before multiple wars arose. Now he travels through his devastated country in search of the people and places he photographed at the time. The documentary Between the Notes will screen at 1:30pm. That film is on the life and career of world-renowned pianist Hélène Grimaud who is recognized as one of the greatest pianists of her generation. That will be followed at 4pm by the narrative feature The House that Stood, about Camillo, a teenager who is living through WWII in San Pietro Avellana, southern Italy, 1943.
- Advance VIP tickets are $10 and allow the holder to attend every session of the fest. $5 single day screening tickets are also available. Any tickets not sold in advance online will be available at The Nordlof Center box office before each screening. To guarantee a ticket you must purchase them in advance online. In the case of a sold-out screening a standby line will be made available in the event that any seats open up.
- All screenings are recommended for ages 15 and up. Area high schools are encouraged to contact the MWFF for a free field trip opportunity on Friday, September 13th at 11am for an all ages short film screening.
- The Rockford Public Library is a founding sponsor of the MWFF and library members can get free tickets to any screening at the box office if seats are available. Full details are on the Attend page.
The Mosaic World Film Festival has been held every Fall in Rockford, IL since 2008. It was founded by area filmmakers to bring a screening of creative and diverse work made by international and local filmmakers to the region.
