Mixer Michael Mason moves to STIR Post Audio from CRC

Master mixer Michael Mason

Stir Post Audio’s David Kaplan calls engineer Michael Mason’s move to Stir from CRC “a reunion of sorts,” as Stir EP/partners Kaplan and Mindy Verson had worked together earlier during their audio careers at CRC.

Mason, an award-winning mixer and sound designer, is the fourth engineer to join 14-month old STIR, within a few weeks of the arrival of former LA-based engineer Nick Bozzone.

“We’re all cut from the same cloth,” says Mason about his new gig, “and this already feels like home to me. Change is good.  Reinventing and trying new techniques are good and Stir is the place to make that happen for me.”

During his more than two decade tenure at CRC, Mason engineered/sound designed thousands of broadcast commercials for some of the world’s most famous iconic brands via major agencies and worked on hundreds of top selling albums, movies and song demos.

“He’s done so many different kinds of sessions that there’s literally no challenge he can’t meet and no problem he can’t solve,” says Kaplan.

At CRC, he was instrumental in developing the patented Virtual Studio recording system that allows clients anywhere in the world to work remotely with CRC in Chicago.

A working musician, a guitarist, Mason plays around the city weekends with different bands, or mixing live sound at large venues.

Verson and Kaplan are pleased and delighted to be working with Mason again. “Michael knows how to quietly direct clients and listen to what they say,” Verson comments.

His intuitive working nature allows him to know when to guide the ship and steer it towards the perfect end product. This type of synergy is what makes clients see the value of working with Michael.”

’Stir’s expanding engineering staff includes Amber Tisue, also originally from LA and Chicago’s Matt Holmes.  The company, whose third partner is Greg Allan of Sonixphere, has studios in the Loop Theatre District and at Sonixphere in Streeterville, “giving our clients the flexibility and convenience of where they want to work,” Kaplan says.
