McDonald’s taps into Minecraft Mania with limited-time movie meals

From building pixelated Golden Arches to constructing full-on restaurants block by block, Minecraft fans have been showing their love for McDonald’s inside the digital sandbox for years. Now, with A Minecraft Movie hitting theaters on April 4, McDonald’s is leveling up with a limited-time meal and Happy Meal that bridge the worlds of gaming and fast food—dropping nationwide on April 1.

Crafted at the brand’s headquarters here in Chicago, this nationwide rollout marks the first-ever collaboration between McDonald’s and the globally beloved video game franchise. Both the Minecraft Movie Meal and Minecraft Movie Happy Meal include collectibles, digital bonuses, and more interactive tie-ins designed to excite fans of all ages.

Building More Than a Meal

The Minecraft Movie Meal offers your choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, plus fries, a drink, and one of six exclusive Minecraft-themed collectibles. And for fans who opt for the nuggets? There’s a fiery bonus: Nether Flame Sauce, a limited-edition dipping sauce inspired by Minecraft’s Nether biome, featuring crushed red pepper, cayenne, garlic, and a hint of sweetness.

The Happy Meal version keeps younger adventurers in mind, featuring one of 12 film-inspired toys or Block World figurines, plus a scannable code that unlocks a Minecraft mini-game on HappyMeal.com. Watch below:

Collectibles and Exclusive Skins

Each meal includes a collectible with a code that unlocks a matching in-game skin via the Minecraft Marketplace. Among the six unique items:

  • Big Mac Crystal – Glows with melty cheese and sesame seed bun energy.
  • Birdie Wings – Soar sky-high with this rare set of elytra.
  • Fry Helmet – Protects your last fry (we hope).
  • Grimace Egg – A mysterious mob in purple form.
  • Soda Potion – Fizzy and mysterious with magical effects.
  • Zombie Hamburglar – Roams the biomes at night, burger-hungry.

Fans who order via the McDonald’s App also score a free McDonald’s Add-On Pack in Minecraft, complete with McDonaldland characters, builds, and tools.

A Chicago-Born Campaign

“When approaching any partnership, we look for the authentic role our brand can play in it,” said Jennifer “JJ” Healan, McDonald’s VP of U.S. Marketing, Brand, Content & Culture. “Fans were already building McDonald’s into the Minecraft universe. We just took it to the next level by merging these two iconic brands into one immersive, collectible-driven campaign.”

So whether you’re gearing up for game night or a movie matinee, grab your pickaxe—and a Minecraft Movie Meal—starting April 1 at McDonald’s locations across Chicago and nationwide. Supplies (and fries) won’t last forever.
