
Telemundo Chicago (WSNS-TV) has announced five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Maria Berrelleza will join the station’s Noticiero Telemundo Chicago team as an on-air reporter, beginning Monday, June 30. The announcement was made by Sally Ramirez, Senior Vice President of News, NBC 5 Chicago / Telemundo Chicago.
In her new role with Noticiero Telemundo Chicago, Berrelleza will deliver breaking news and additional feature story reports for the station’s late morning, afternoon, and evening newscasts.
“María brings a wealth of reporting experiencing to our team, along with a determined commitment in keeping Chicago’s Latino community informed and heard,” said Ramirez. “We look forward to adding María to our acclaimed Noticiero Telemundo Chicago talent roster this summer.”
Since 2022, Berrelleza served as a general assignment reporter for Univision Chicago (WGBO-TV), delivering extensive coverage of major local events, including the Democratic National Convention, large-scale protests, winter storms and numerous breaking news stories. In addition to her fill-in anchor duties, Berrelleza also produced and fronted Univision Chicago’s “Yo Quiero” segment dedicated to community-focused storytelling.
Prior to joining Univision Chicago, Berrelleza worked as a general assignment journalist for Telemundo stations in Sacramento, Cal. (KSCO-TV) and Fresno, Cal. (KNSO-TV) from 2019-2022, along with additional career stops at Univision stations in Philadelphia, Penn. (WUVP-TV) and Atlanta, Ga. (WUVG-TV) from 2017-2019.
In addition to earning five local Emmy awards, Berrelleza also earned a prestigious Golden Mike Award for “Best TV Hard News Series Reporting.”
Originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, Berrelleza was raised in Arizona and earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.
