Making History’s documentary “Stolen Generation” exposes impact on children from Uganda civil war

Nixon Olanya and Evelyn Apiyo were abducted from their childhood homes and forced into the service of the Lord’s Resistance Army, Olanya as a soldier and Apiyo as a sex slave.

Unlike most of the 20,000 children estimated to have been kidnapped by the rebel LRA during Uganda’s 19-year civil war, Olanya and Apiyo escaped and returned to their families.

“We had the opportunity to interview five children [including Olanya and Apiyo] who were forced into the LRA, whether as soldiers or sex slaves,” said Michelle Gallardo, producer of the new documentary “Stolen Generation: The Story of Children in Northern Uganda.”
