“Lisa Simpson” records at Grooters’ studio

Lisa Simpson was a long way from Springfield in TVland when she — in the person of Yeardley Smith — worked in Holland as executive producer on TicTock Studios’ feature, “What’s Wrong with Virginia.”

At the same time, Yeardley needed to record the voice of Lisa Simpson for upcoming shows, and went to nearby Grooters media production studios to do so.

Using ISDN technology, Grooters worked remotely with the show’s Hollywood producers to record eight new “Simpsons” episodes, including a Thanksgiving special and several episodes slated for the spring season.

“Yeardley was a joy to work with, and I think she was genuinely impressed to find such fine recording capabilities here in West Michigan,” commented Grooters’ Paul Wesselink, who engineered the sessions.

Grooters Productions also recorded actor Ed Harris, who stars in “What’s Wrong with Virginia,” for a package of Home Depot national TV and radio spots.

Harris plays the leading role in “Virginia,” as the sheriff whose daughter begins dating the son of a woman with whom he has had a long affair. He co-stars with Jennifer Connelly, Carrie Preston and his wife, Amy Madigan.

“Virginia” began shooting in Holland around Oct. 1 and just wrapped. It was directed by Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for “Milk” screenplay.

Grooters Productions, formed in 2001, specializes in HD video production and finishing, audio post, digital effects, print graphics and web design/development.

Grooters is located at 17 W. 6th St., Holland, Mich.; phone, 616/546-4000. See
