Legendary plans to shop Paper Girls after cancellation

The teen drama, Paper Girls, although well received by critics when Amazon Prime dropped all eight episodes on July 29th, has not been picked up by Amazon for a second season. However, there is hope that we will see our four young heroines return.

The Wrap reports that while Amazon will not move forward with the show, fellow producer Legendary Television will shop the series around in hopes of finding a new home.

Paper Girls, filmed entirely in Chicago, is described as “a high-stakes personal journey depicted through the eyes of four girls,” according to the official logline. Paper Girls is based on the best-selling graphic novels written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang. The show’s breakout leads are played by Camryn Jones as Tiffany Quilkin, Riley Lai Nelet as Erin Tieng, Sofia Rosinsky as Mac Coyle, and Fina Strazza as KJ Brandman. The hilarious and talented Ali Wong also stars as the grown-up version of Erin, with Nate Corddry as Larry and Adina Porter as Prioress.

Chicagoans likely recall the show being filmed last year around the city in several spots including the famed Music Box Theater in Chicago. Production also transformed the Chicago Southport Corridor into a 1980’s, 4th of July set along with filming scenes in a myriad of other locations including Wheeling, Glenwood, Elburn, McHenry, Thornton and Cinespace Chicago Film Studios.

Paper Girls is produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, in association with Brad Pitt’s Plan BStephany Folsom, Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers executive produce while Folsom and Rogers co-showrun. The series was created for television by Folsom.

Season One is directed by Mairzee Almas, Georgi Banks-Davies, Destiny Ekaragha, and Karen Gaviola.

Reel Chicago will hopefully have a follow up story with good news about the series.
