LaRoyce Hawkins joins Marvel’s Ironheart as Riri Williams’ stepfather

Ironheart

Chicago native and Chicago P.D. star LaRoyce Hawkins has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portraying Gary Williams, the stepfather of Riri Williams, in the new Disney+ series Ironheart. The show, which debuts June 24 with its first three episodes, places Hawkins at the emotional core of the origin story for one of Marvel’s newest young heroes.

Hawkins plays a mechanic and mentor who helped shape Riri’s early interest in technology. Gary’s garage becomes a creative haven where a young Riri learns to build and experiment. In the comics, Gary is a positive father figure who is tragically killed in a drive-by shooting—an event that has a lasting impact on Riri’s drive to become a hero.

LaRoyce Hawkins appears in the most recent trailer release:

Set in Chicago, Ironheart follows Riri after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as she balances life as a tech prodigy with the responsibilities of being a superhero. The six-episode miniseries explores the collision of technology and magic, with Riri’s suit becoming infused with mystical elements as she faces off against The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos.

The casting of Hawkins adds another layer of Chicago representation to the series. Known for his long-running role on NBC’s Chicago P.D., Hawkins now brings a familiar face to Marvel fans, especially those in Chicago. His role in Ironheart connects both to his real-life roots and the series’ commitment to portraying Chicago authentically.

Ironheart will release its final three episodes on July 1, concluding Marvel’s Phase 5 television slate. The show is created by Chinaka Hodge and continues Marvel’s push to highlight young heroes and diverse voices within its growing universe.

Ironheart premieres on Disney+ on June 24 with three episodes. It is rated TV-14.
