Larenz Tate, Larron Tate and Lahmard Tate to headline XL Film Fest

Brothers Larenz TateLarron Tate and Lahmard Tate will headline this year’s XL Film Fest in Chicago.

XL Fest on August 15-18 is becoming the preeminent Storytelling festival in Chicago. The full Line up of speakers and films will be announced next month. 

Actor Larenz Tate is best known for his roles in classic films like Menace to Society (1993) Dead Presidents (1995) and love jones (1997). He currently is known for his role as Councilman Rashad Tate, the Starz original crime drama series, Power, co-produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

Lahmard Tate is also featured in the hit show, and its sequel, Power Book II: Ghost and often lauded for his hilarious performances in movies such as Barbershop, the cult classic Don’t Be A Menace To Society and Janky Promoters alongside Ice Cube and Mike Epps.

Larron Tate currently runs Tate Men Entertainment, a growing multi-media company committed to offering quality content for film, television and digital platforms. Their current slate of projects include the indie film Beta Test and the feature film Deuces, alongside Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Productions which is presently on Netflix. They have a hit, scripted audio series with Laurence Fishburne’s company, Cinema Gypsy, that is on iTunes and Spotify. Their next film, Business Ethics filmed in Toronto, Canada is currently in post-production.

After launching the XL Film Fest with Robert Townsend and Louis Carr last summer, XL scales to take over 9 venues in Hyde Park Aug 15-18.

Activities include 50+ speakers, an awards ceremony, screenings, panels, workshops, art galleries, wellness lounges, Shure podcast studio, and gaming room. 

The Pitch Competition returns featuring 5 film teams, competing for the opportunity to enter the XL Lab  Winners receive a monetary grant, access to equipment, studio space, a year of mentorship from showrunners, industry execs,  marketing support, and streamlined pathway toward various festivals. 

Film submissions are now closed, NK Gutiérrez is leading the curation team for XL Guitterez also serves as Co-Operation Manager at Sundance Institute x Chicago 2024 and Director of Operations for Midwest Film Festival. 

XL Fest founder Troy Pryor has the vision to see targets that many cannot and skill to mobilize people toward positive action. He also serves as VP of SAG-AFTRA Chicago, Soho House’s Inclusivity Board, Obama Foundation MBK Alliance group, and advises for a host of organizations.
