Buh-bye, Keanu. Just two months after Disney-backed Hulu announced that Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, John Wick) would lead the cast of the Martin Scorsese– and Leonardo DiCaprio-produced series Devil in the White City, comes word that Reeves has left the project. No reason was given.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama, Hulu officially ordered in August, is now looking for a replacement lead. No word if the deal will be near as large as Reeves’ deal, reportedly record-setting.

In the works for over a decade, The Devil in the White City is divided into four parts, the first three happening in Chicago between 1890 and 1893, while part four of the book takes place in Philadelphia circa 1895.

The plot line revolves around Daniel Burnham, his building of the World’s Fair, and the struggles he overcomes. The other, a vivid and very different plot line, is that of H. H. Holmes, a mentally unstable pharmacist/doctor who forms a plan to use an abandoned lot across the street from his pharmacy to lure and kill multiple victims.

The eight-episode limited series was set to launch in 2024.
