Kartemquin trio goes behind the scenes

IFP’S 2009 PRODUCERS SERIES April 4-6 and April 18-29 at Columbia College focuses on documentaries. Toplining the series is a Kartemquin trio of creative director Gordon Quinn, producer director Steve James (“Hoop Dreams”) and editor/director of post Leslie Simmer.

They will discuss “Want to Plan a Series?” based on everything that’s involved in their 7-part documentary series, “The New Americans.”

Another Series treat: A pitch session led by media goddess Laurie Scheer, a popular Media Bistro instructor, author, former VP/programming for WE: Women’s Entertainment and currently a member of Flashpoint’s film faculty.

For the first time in Chicago, Scheer will lead two Media Bistro seminars. She teaches two great seminars at the Theatre building: “How to Write for (and Pitch to) Women’s TV Network March 25, and “Developing Online Videos” May 6, both from 7 to 10 p.m.

PRODUCER CARL AMARI hosts a new Saturday night radio show, “Hollywood 360,” featuring celebrity interviews, heard over WIND AM 560 from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Amari is the producer of the monumental $5 million-budgeted audio production of “The Old Testament,” currently in production at Cerny American studios, and the equally awesome The Word of Promise” a 25-hour, 20-CD production of the New Testament. Ric Arthur is the show’s executive producer.

SHOP TALK. AM Films’ producer/director Adam Marton and executive producer Lisa Long are working on a convention video for a big pharmaceutical company. Long recently joined Marton from stints as producer at The Whitehouse and Red Car.
