Kartemquin Films wins second Peabody Award

Kartemquin Films has won its second prestigious Peabody Award for filmmaker Maria Finitzo’s timely documentary, “Mapping Stem Cell Research: Terra Incognita.”

Finitizo will accept the award during the 68th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony in New York May 18 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The film will screen at New York’s New School April 14.

Stated the Peabody board in its award to Kartemquin: “Neither scientific facts nor ethical complexity nor emotional drama was sacrificed in this documentary about a neurologist who took up stem cell research after his beloved daughter suffered a spinal injury.”

Kartemquin’s Oscar-nominated film, “Hoop Dreams” won the Peabody in 1994.

The Peabody Awards recognize distinguished achievement by all broadcasting organizations, producing organizations and individuals.
