The Power Universe is heading back to New York. Starz has officially greenlit Power: Legacy, the fifth spinoff in the long-running franchise, reuniting fan-favorite characters Tariq St. Patrick and Tommy Egan for a new chapter that brings the next generation and the original generation of Power together.
The eight-episode series will see Michael Rainey Jr. reprise his role as Tariq St. Patrick alongside Joseph Sikora’s Tommy Egan as the pair attempt to take control of New York City. Unlike previous entries in the franchise, Power: Legacy will be co-produced by Starz and Lionsgate Television, marking a new production model for the network’s most valuable original property.
The announcement comes after months of speculation from fans. A post-credits sequence in the 2024 finale of Power Book II: Ghost hinted that Tariq’s story was far from over, while his appearance in the series finale of Power Book IV: Force earlier this year further fueled rumors of a reunion with Tommy.
“Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet,” said executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. “Fans have been waiting to see Tariq and Tommy together, and now they’re taking over New York City. Bringing Joseph and Michael back together is special; they’ve turned these characters into true icons of the Power universe.”
For Starz, the new series represents the latest expansion of a franchise that has remained one of television’s most successful serialized crime dramas since the original Power premiered in 2014. Over the past decade, the universe has spawned multiple successful series, including Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force.
“The fans have spoken, and we listened,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz. “Power doesn’t die, it evolves with its audience, and for over a decade, the Power Universe has remained at the forefront of culture. We’re thrilled to reunite Joseph and Michael to deliver a new chapter that fuses the franchise’s iconic legacy with bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.”
The new series will be led by veteran Power writer and producer Gary Lennon, who serves as showrunner. Lennon co-wrote the pilot with Kendra Chapman Davis, with both serving as executive producers. Sikora will also executive produce, while Rainey Jr. receives a producer credit.
“I’m thrilled to reunite with Starz to bring this latest chapter of the Power Universe to fans and especially proud to be entrusted with continuing Tommy and Tariq’s story as showrunner on Power: Legacy,” Lennon said. “It’s going to be electrifying to see if these two men can share the city, the game and the intoxicating drug known as Power.”
The franchise remains one of the strongest brands in cable and streaming television. In addition to Power: Legacy, Starz will premiere the fifth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan on June 12, while Power: Origins, exploring the early years of Ghost and Tommy, is currently in production.
With Tommy returning to the city that made him and Tariq stepping fully into his father’s shadow, Power: Legacy appears poised to unite two generations of the franchise for what could become its biggest chapter yet.
