Jewish Film Fest to screen six classics on opening night

In a gesture of mischievous generosity, the JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival is offering movie lovers a choice of six different films to see on opening night.

ET, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Funny Girl, Keeping Up with the Steins, Stand By me, and When Harry Met Sally will energize the launch of the organization’s seventh annual run at Old Orchard in Skokie next Thursday.

Besides offering friends and family the chance to mingle with cocktails, popcorn, and appetizers, the opening night event is officially titled, The Big Schmooze, which is really fun to say.

The ensuing program will screen more than 50 films from February 28 through March 15 at seven venues across the city and suburbs: Cinemark Theater in Evanston, CMX CineBistro and CMX Market at Old Orchard in Skokie, CMX Arlington Heights, the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie, the Logan Theater in Logan Square, and the Renaissance Place Cinema in Highland Park.

Fourteen Midwest Premieres, eleven Chicago Premieres, four U.S. Premieres and one World Premiere are among the highlights of this year’s selections from around the globe.

The JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival has quickly become one of the country’s largest presenters of Jewish film and is approached regularly by film distributors in the U.S. and around the world to present first look screenings or Chicago premieres throughout the year.

Said Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot, Mayor of the City of Chicago, “I commend the JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival for their ongoing efforts to build community and connections that enrich our city and beyond.”
