Emmy-Award-winning, Evanston native Jeremy Piven is returning to his roots with a special stand-up comedy taping at The Vic Theatre in Chicago on Friday, June 6. The event marks a significant milestone in Piven’s career, as it is his first major comedy tour following the passing of his mother, Joyce Piven, a renowned Chicago acting teacher and his lifelong mentor.
Joyce and husband Byrne Piven were co-founders of the Playwrights Theatre Club, a forerunner of The Second City.
Piven, best known for his role as the fast-talking, acerbic Hollywood agent Ari Gold in the HBO series Entourage, credits his mother with shaping his approach to performance. The performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., with the earlier show already sold out. Tickets for the 10 p.m. performance are still available.
Reflecting on his roots, Piven emphasized the influence of Chicago’s vibrant theater scene on his development as an artist. He began his career at Second City alongside Chris Farley and acknowledges the city’s support for the arts as a cornerstone of his success.
For those who are eager to witness Piven’s return to the Chicago stage, the 10 p.m. show promises an evening of humor and heartfelt storytelling.
