Jan Maitland’s Samsung spot wins AICE Award

UTOPIC DID CHICAGO PROUD by being one of the 21 winners among a wide range of editorial houses at Tuesday night’s AICE 10th Annual Awards in New York, honoring creative excellence in editorial and design.

Maitland won the Best of Chicago prize with his editing of a Samsung spot, titled “Graphic Artist,” for Leo Burnett. His entry was among the 52 finalists – including five Chicago editors — in 24 categories, which included nine Best of Cities.

VP/executive producer Michael Antonucci accepted the prize on behalf of Maitland, who was on a plane returning from a Samsung shoot on location in Auckland, New Zealand Tuesday night.  

This was Utopic’s first industry award since it was formed in January, 2010 as Chicago’s first hybrid digital media company.

Beast and Big Sky Editorial led the list of AICE winners with four prizes each.  

More than 450 industry professionals from throughout the country attended the event at 583 Park Avenue. Honors were presented in a variety of categories, judged by panels of AICE editors and designers, ad agency creatives and producers and production company producers and directors.

The five Chicago finalists for top awards were John Dingfield, Beast; Mathew Wood and Carlos Lowenstein, The Whitehouse; Grant Gustafson and Nadav Kurtz, Cutters.
