Indie feature film, Gaia currently filming in Chicago

Gaia, an inspiring independent feature film, is currently shooting in the heart of Chicago under a SAG interim agreement. The cast, including notable Chicago-based actors Christian Stolte (Chicago Fire), John Hoogenakker, Emma Jo Boyden, Candice Rose, and Rebecca Spence among others.

The film tells the powerful story of Gaia (Emma Jo Boyden) a pioneering woman in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Known for her fearless determination, she finds herself seriously injured during a fateful encounter with a promising young fighter. Guiding Gaia through her journey is her dedicated coach played by John Hoogenakker, who understands that for her to make a successful comeback, healing her physical and emotional wounds must become a priority. Recognizing the need for a fresh start, he suggests she return to her estranged family in Chicago for both solace and reconciliation.


Gaia is a thought-provoking film that explores themes of personal growth, determination, and the complexities of familial relationships. It encapsulates the struggles faced by individuals torn between their ambitions and the love they have for their family.

Written and directed by Wendell Etherly, an up-and-coming talent in the film industry. The filming takes place against the backdrop of Chicago’s vibrant cityscape, on the North side of Chicago, Evanston, and the West loop.
